This week, the City of Cape Town’s Road Infrastructure Management Department will be resurfacing various roads in Bo-Kaap, Oranjezicht and Tamboerskloof. The works are planned to be completed by 10 December 2021, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather. Read more below:

The roadworks will be implemented along the following roads:

Castle Street, Hout Street, Shortmarket Street and Church Street in Bo-Kaap

Upper Orange Street and Kensington Crescent in Oranjezicht

De hoop Avenue in Tamboerskloof.

Work will take place Monday to Friday from 07:00 until 17:00.

‘The work is part of general road maintenance and is much needed to ensure the longevity of the City’s overall road network. An improved road surface will also enhance the safety for all road users. Given that road maintenance usually causes some inconvenience, I urge residents to please be patient while the work is under way and comply with the signage. Once complete, all of us making use of these roads will benefit from it,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Councillor Rob Quintas.

Road users are informed that traffic moving in both directions will be affected and flag personnel will regulate traffic in one direction at a time. Work areas will be temporarily demarcated to regulate traffic flow. Residents may park their vehicles in the driveways as normal, if and when access is available, however, we appeal to them not to park in a manner that will obstruct the resurfacing operation as this may interfere with the works and delay the project.

‘Although no congestion is expected in the area, we recommend that road users consider alternative routes where possible. I want to thank the residents for their cooperation and patience while the work is ongoing,’ said Councillor Quintas.
