Rietfontein man convicted for murder of girlfriend

NORTHERN CAPE - A 30-years-old man, Elrico Coetzee, was convicted for the murder of his girlfriend, Petronice Vilander (18) on 31 May 2022.

On 01 July 2021, the couple were together when an argument broke out between them and Elrico stabbed the deceased on her neck with a knife. The emergency services declared her dead on the scene.

The Regional Court of Upington sentenced Elrico Coetzee to 12 years’ imprisonment and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Acting Station Commander of Rietfontein Warrant Officer Mthuthuzeli Block commended Constable Sam Devenish for the meticulous investigation of the which led to the incarceration of the accused.
