Retreat Road to receive much needed treatment

The City of Cape Town’s Road Infrastructure Management Department is set to commence with the resurfacing of two sections of Retreat Road in Retreat. The first section is from Joe Marks Boulevard to First Avenue and the second section is Eighth Avenue to Prince George Drive, all-in-all approximately 1,8km in length. Read more below:

The work is planned to commence on Monday, 14 March 2022, and the provisional completion date is mid-May 2022, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.

The works will be implemented during the week from 09:00 to15:30.

The works entail the following:

• Repair and realign kerbs and channels

• Repair surface and base patches on the road and sidewalk

• Remove the existing brick paving and replace with asphalt

• Mill the existing surface and inlay with asphalt

‘Retreat Road is a very busy road and many residents from Grassy Park, Lotus River and surrounds, use it to get to Retreat station, where they either connect to other transport modes or walk to work or school. Thus, we will not close the road but will accommodate traffic by having one lane open and by having a detour while construction is under way on the other. I understand that this will be frustrating, however, the existing road surface is dry, old, has base failures, water is not draining and the curbs need to be re-aligned.
