The City’s Road Infrastructure Management Department is resurfacing this portion of Jafta K Masemola Road from Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 16:00 each day.

The City has invested approximately R10 million in this project, which will see a section covering a distance of 1,3 km to be resurfaced.

‘The Roads Infrastructure Management team in the district has prioritised Jafta K Masemola Road for resurfacing. It is the district office’s responsibility to ensure that the allocated operational budget is spent equitably among all wards in the district. Most recently, the City has also completed the resurfacing work along Oscar Mpetha Road and Ntenetya Street. We will continue to work our way through the area. Although we have tried to arrange for the work to happen outside of the peak-hour periods, congestion is to be expected and we recommend that road users please consider alternative routes where possible. We thank you for your cooperation and patience while we get this important work done,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Councillor Rob Quintas.

Traffic moving in both directions will be affected, however, flag personnel will direct traffic by means of temporary detours around the work area which will be demarcated. Lane closures will be implemented and traffic will be controlled by a stop-and-go system. Should lane closures not provide safe working space, temporary road closures will be in place and where detours are required, detour signage will direct motorists.

Residents are advised that vehicles may be parked in driveways, if and when access is available. If vehicles are parked in the road and obstruct the work, they will be moved or towed away. Dusty conditions are to be expected and bitumen splashes on vehicle bodies are difficult to remove, therefore it is in the interest of motorists to comply with the traffic arrangements.

The roadworks will entail the removing of the top asphalt layer and replacing it with a brand new asphalt surface.
