The City’s Road Infrastructure Management Department is set to commence with the repair of a footway in Oval East Street in Beacon Valley, an area within Mitchells Plain. The work is scheduled to take place between 29 August and 16 September 2022, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.
The verge behind the footway was compromised by cable theft and from ongoing clearing of rubble and waste which had been dumped illegally. This then ultimately lead to the collapse of the concrete footway following recent heavy rains.
Work will take place on weekdays only, from 07:30 to 17:00.
'We are committed to keeping our residents safe while on the road. Our local teams are constantly monitoring our roads and footways and saw to it that this damaged footway be repaired urgently since it was damaged by the heavy rains. Once completed, the new footways will improve pedestrian safety along this street,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The work entails the following:
• Demolishing and removal of the existing damaged concrete footway
• Reinstating layer works, where required
• Repairing the kerbs and channels
• Reinstating verge behind the footway, where required
• Placing new asphalt surfacing to footway
