DURBAN – According to the child’s relative, Asemahle Ntshalintshali (03) ate some snacks and went to sleep on 10 March 2022 at Matiwaneskop near Ladysmith. On Friday, 11 March 2022 at 04:00, the suspect reported that the little girl started to vomit and she died.

An inquest docket was opened at Elandslaagte SAPS. At that stage no foul play was suspected and there were no visible injuries on the deceased’s body. An intensive investigation and the medical examination revealed that the child had internal blood clots in her head and kidneys. It was established that the child was severely assaulted and sustained internal injuries.

The inquest docket was then changed to murder. The investigation conducted by police led to the arrest of the relative. The 19-year-old suspect was placed under arrest on a charge of murder. He will appear before the Ladysmith Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 22 March 2022.
