Rapist handed life term imprisonment

SPRINGBOK – The SAPS welcomes the life sentence that was handed down today in Springbok Regional Court to a 38-year-old rapist who raped a 06-year-old girl in Okiep, Springbok on 29 September 2018.

He was arrested and found guilty of rape on 25 March 2022, after the court heard how the victim, who is a friend of the accused’s daughter and often visited to play, was lured into the house with sweets when the incident occurred.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Brigadier Nicky Mills commended Detective Constable Mitchell Cloete from the Springbok Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for the meticulous investigation of this case. Brigadier Mills further emphasized that May month is dedicated to Child Protection month to raise awareness of the need to protect children against abuse, exploitation, neglect and all forms of violence as stipulated in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa and Children’s Act.
