ZWELITSHA – The promotion of South African Police Service (SAPS) members to higher ranks not only elevates them to new roles in their careers but it plays an important part in strengthening the overall future leadership in the police service. This exercise of reinforcement of the human capital forms part of a succession strategic plan that any organization including the SAPS must execute in ensuring stability, direction, development and growth of the organization for the future.
Today, 07 September 2021, the Eastern Cape SAPS was pleased to announce the appointment and promotion of Section and Provincial Commanders as well as Line Managers in the ranks of Colonels and Lieutenant Colonels who will be serving in the different components and portfolios across the province.
The new ranks were conferred on (13) new middle managers by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner: Corporate Services, Major General Thobeka Kunene accompanied by the Station Commander of Cambridge SAPS, Brigadier Phumla Mdlankomo on behalf of the District Commissioner of Buffalo City Metro District. The new appointees proved to be suitably qualified and have distinguished themselves against many other candidates who formed part of the application process because of the skills and experience which they have displayed in their diverse field of expertise.
In her address, Major Gen Kunene encouraged appointees to lead members under their command in line with the SAPS Code of Conduct, with integrity, respect, accountability and without question. “As you climb the ladder of the organization, I wish to encourage you to read the policies of the organization. Being a commander and manager means you must be a people’s person. You must have integrity, respect and your conduct must be beyond reproach” said Maj Gen Kunene.
Giving a response speech on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Colonel Siphelo Jaggers said that “Having hope all the time helped each and every one of us to see the light of this day where we are full of smiles. The management must rest assured that they have appointed leaders who will take this province to greater heights”.
The Eastern Cape SAPS congratulates the newly appointed officers in their new ranks and roles and is confident that the officers will take the baton of command and run with it for the benefit of the entire organization.
