Ramokgopa Announces Visits to Eskom Power Stations to Address Energy Challenges

Mpumalanga – Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the Minister in the Presidency responsible for Electricity, is set to commence a series of visits to Eskom power stations starting with Arnot and Hendrina in Mpumalanga on Monday.

According to South African Government News Agency, these visits are a continuation of the Minister’s initial tour following his appointment in March 2023. The purpose of these tours is to gain a deeper understanding of the issues confronting the power stations to facilitate the necessary interventions. These steps are part of the broader Energy Action Plan aimed at enhancing the reliability of the electricity supply and ending the persistent load shedding issues.

The Minister’s schedule includes stops at Kriel and Matla power stations on Wednesday, 8 November, and the Camdem power plant on Thursday, with all facilities located in Mpumalanga. The following week, on Monday, 13 November, Ramokgopa will tour the Lethabo plant in Gauteng and will then proceed to the Ankerling and Koeberg plants in the Western Cape on Tuesday, 14 November.

During these visits, Minister Ramokgopa is expected to engage with the management teams, unions, and workers to discuss and address the operational challenges. The Ministry disclosed this itinerary and its objectives on Saturday, underscoring the proactive measures being taken to resolve the ongoing electricity supply crisis in the country.
