The City’s R45 million Pooke se Bos Infill housing project in Gatesville is making steady progress. The project will provide 135 affordable housing opportunities for the poor residents of the Pooke se Bos informal settlement.
The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, and senior officials in Human Settlements visited the site to take a closer look at the progress.
‘We are happy to see this infill housing development make substantial progress. This important project situated in Gatesville will provide 135 Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes to the residents of the Pooke se Bos informal settlement.
‘The total cost of the project is R45 million, which includes civil and electrical works, landscaping and top structure construction, among others. We are pleased with the steady progress being made at the project, which is expected to be completed in April 2023, if all goes as planned.
‘This is a special City project which will see opportunities being provided for the poor residents of the existing Pooke se Bos informal settlement. The City remains committed to ensuring that the most vulnerable Capetonians are assisted with affordable housing across the metro.
‘The City thanks all project teams for their work thus far and we look forward to handing over the first keys to beneficiaries once the homes are completed. We ask residents to support the City’s efforts to protect beneficiaries, community projects and services by alerting us to any attempts to occupy land or housing projects,’ said Councillor Booi.
