A team of SAPS Qumbu detectives and uniformed members were immediately mobilised to track, trace and arrest four alleged murder suspects who shot and killed a 27 year old male in the area.
It is alleged that at about 01:30 on Sunday morning, 10 October 2021 a group of males were returning from a tavern when they were stopped by four occupants in a white Mercedes Benz who enquired about their phone that was allegedly lost. The driver of the vehicle pulled out a firearm and fatally wounded Luyanda Fumbaza. They then drove off.
It is further alleged that at about 11:00, the suspects went back to the tavern looking for their phone. The phone was found. The detective officers were informed of the suspect’s whereabouts and immediately the team responded and arrested the four males aged between 21-48 years old.
The Mercedes Benz was reported hijacked in Mdantsane in August 2021.
The suspects were detained on cases of murder, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a hijacked vehicle.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Qumbu magistrate court soon.
