ALICE: A 25-year-old male believed to be from Paterson was arrested after robbery at a business place in Alice.
Three males entered and introduced themselves as police officials and were wearing SAPS bulletproof vests. During their interview with the teller they then pointed her with a firearm and wanted money. They instructed her to open where the money was kept and took four bags full of money and used the back door to escape.
The community spotted one of the suspects and gave chase till he disappeared in the lake. Police quickly responded and on investigation they saw the suspect floating and apprehended him. Thorough investigation led police to recover an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect was immediately arrested and charged for business robbery and will appear at Alice Magistrates’ Court soon. The other two suspects are still at large but police investigation continue.
The Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu commended the job done by the community members as they are working closely with police and he appreciated the swift response by police members that led to the arrest of the suspect and recovery.
