KZN to host the Public Service Women in Leadership Network
The Department of Public Service and Administration in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government and the Government Employees Medical Scheme (GEMS) will on Tuesday, 30 August 2022 host the Public Service Women in Leadership Network at the Durban Exhibition Centre, as part of the 2022 Women’s Month programme.
The networking session will be held under the theme: “Empowering and inspiring women in leadership in the public service to become resilient and effective leaders.”
The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Ms Nomusa Dube-Ncube will headline the speakers at the Networking Session. Other speakers will include the Speaker of the KZN Legislature, Ms Nontobeko Boyce and the Director-General of the Department of Public Service and Administration, Ms Yoliswa Makhasi respectively as well as other representatives from the provincial government.
The Network, dubbed, a community of practice, was launched by the Public Service and Administration Deputy Minister, Dr Chana Pilane-Majake in Gauteng two weeks ago and is being rolled out to all provinces to empower and inspire women in positions of leadership in the public service, majority whom are on Senior Management Services (SMS) to become resilient and effective leaders in government.
Government introduced the public service 8-Principle Action Plan for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality in 2007 to empower women in the workplace, and these principles are integrated into departments’ action plan in order to achieve progress towards women’s total emancipation.
The Action Plan is a measuring tool that monitors the extent to which equality and non-discrimination under the law, access to justice for women, poverty reduction; right to work, career pathing as well as women’s entrepreneurship and development of women’s enterprises are covered within public service.
