Cape town: Members attached to Public Order Policing arrested a 24-year-old male for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition on 30 October 2025 at around 02:30. The members were doing foot patrols in Uitsig, and as they were approaching Dolphin Street, they heard a single gunshot and saw two males fleeing from the direction of the gunshots.
According to South African Police Service, the officers gave chase and caught up with one of the suspects who was found to be in possession of a revolver without a serial number, three cartridges, and one round of ammunition. The suspect was arrested and will appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s court on Monday, 03 November 2025.
In an unrelated incident, at approximately 01:00 on 01 November 2025, Public Order Policing members in Mbekweni, Paarl spotted a suspicious male walking down the street. They approached the male who immediately fled on foot, and while fleeing, he was seen throwing an item into a yard in Zukuza Street, Mbekweni, and disappeared. Members found the item to be a firearm and this was handed in as abandoned. No one was arrested, and the investigation into the recovery is underway.
Both firearms will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether they have been used in the commission of any other crimes.
