Public Enterprises CEO Forum Chair Highlights Boardroom Struggles

Gross Barmen – Fluksman Samuel, Chairperson of the Public Enterprises CEO Forum, expressed concerns over the strained relationships between boards and executives of public enterprises. Speaking at the second public enterprises conference, Samuel underscored the importance of cooperation among government, boards, and executive management. He identified antagonism and conflict in corporate boardrooms as detrimental to progress in the public enterprise sector. Samuel, also the CEO of the Lüderitz Waterfront, emphasized the need for thorough discussions at the conference to address these challenges and develop solutions.

According to Namibian Press Agency (NAMPA), He advocated for the government’s role in appointing competent, ‘fit and proper’ individuals to public enterprise boards and emphasized the necessity of an effective induction phase for new boards. Finance and Public Enterprises Minister Iipumbu Shiimi, addressing the same conference, acknowledged the ongoing efforts to improve governance in public enterprises, including enhancing the recruitment process to attract top talent.
