WESTERN CAPE – On Sunday 2022-11-06 at approximately 21:00 members attached to Provincial Extortion Task Team received information of a suspected hijacked truck at a premises in the Siqalo informal settlement, Philippi area. The members mobilized and upon their arrival the local police and the tracker company were already on the scene at Pacific on Vanguard Drive, Philippi.
As the members searched the premises they could smell a very strong smell of dagga. Upon searching the premises for the suspects who were involved in the truck hijacking, they discovered two dagga plantations and a large amount of dagga that has been grown. A 50-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of cultivating dagga.
Furthermore members of the same task team decided to search a nearby house as the 50-year-old suspect said it belonged to a tenant. As the members entered the house they noticed pictures of the male suspect on the walls and found that the house belongs to him. The members searched the premises and found 19 .38 Special rounds of ammunition hidden in a closet, and 23 brand new washing machines. The owner and his wife could not provide any receipts of the washing machines and the 44-year-old female was arrested on charges of being in possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property.
Both suspects will make their court appearance in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges soon.
