The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has applauded members for their hardwork, dedication and commitment they bestowed, which led to a breakthrough in a case whereby a 30-year-old woman was brutally murdered. Ms Nondumiso Nicollin Mabila who worked as a member of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) was brutally killed on 09 September 2021, at Tonga near Komatipoort. Two suspects were arrested by members of the SAPS at Tonga and appeared before the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 13 September 2021.

 

Police report indicates that on the said day, the SANDF member was in full uniform and in the early hours of the morning came out of her house, heading to work. Unbeknown to her that something evil would befall her. It is said that as soon as she came out of the house, she was reportedly attacked and stabbed several times to death by suspects before fleeing the scene, leaving her bleeding profusely.

 

The woman’s relative was then informed that there was something suspicious at the SANDF member’s residence. Upon arrival he (relative) discovered her lifeless body lying outside in a pool of blood, with what looked like stab wounds.

 

Police and medical personnel were notified and upon their arrival at the scene, the woman was unfortunately certified dead by the paramedics. A murder case was opened accordingly and police from Tonga immediately began with their investigation which led to the arrest of Thabo Mambane, aged 21 on and Ndumiso Mabila, aged 31.

 

The two suspects were remanded in custody during their court appearance and they will appear again before the same court for a formal bail application on 27 September 2021.

 

Meanwhile Lieutenant General Manamela reiterated that she will do everything in her power to ensure that the province of Mpumalanga becomes safe for all, including vulnerable groups. The General further emphasised that the efforts by members are geared towards the realisation of that goal.
