NELSPRUIT – The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has applauded members of the police at Greylingstad for the arrest of six suspects, aged between 27 and 43. The suspects were apprehended on charges of attempted business robbery at a post office in Greylingstad yesterday on Tuesday, 04 January 2022.
According to the information, on the said day the workers at Greylingstad Post Office were on duty when a suspicious male and a female entered the premises with a big box. This was just after a cash delivery vehicle had just left the post office. The two tried to force their way in but the employees denied them access and instead locked the burglar door. Police were immediately notified and on their arrival they arrested some and some suspects had fled in a gold Toyota Fortuner. Some tried to evade the arrest on foot but were chased and arrested by the astute members. Four were arrested initially and two more were arrested after reportedly driving away in a silver Ford Ranger. However their freedom was short lived as they were later cornered at a police roadblock in Johannesburg (Gauteng).
A total of six suspects were put behind bars on the day with a seizure of the two vehicles. Police cannot rule out the possibility of linking the suspects to other crimes committed elsewhere and they are expected to appear in the Balfour Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 06 January 2022 where they are faced with attempted business robbery.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has further welcomed the arrest of the suspects which prevented a possible business robbery.
