Provincial commissioner accompanies premier to the late hero’s home in East London

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene accompanied the Premier of the Province, Mr Oscar Mabuyane to the home of the late Captain Pierre Marx who passed on recently, leaving SAPS family shocked and devastated.

 

The Executive Mayor of Buffalo City Metro Municipality, Councillor Xola Pakati was also part of the entourage.

 

Mr Mabuyane’s visit to Marx’s home was aimed at comforting and consoling the family. The Premier applauded dedication and patriotism displayed by the late hero in the execution of his duties, as he diligently served and protected various communities. “We are here as Eastern Cape government to comfort you and to mitigate and share the pain with you. We appreciate and applaud Captain Marx’s dedication and patriotism as he executed his duties to serve and protect communities. The fact that he died with his boots on tells us that he was always prepared to die serving our communities. He promoted the image of the SAPS, and government generally.” the Premier said.

 

He utilised the opportunity to commend the South African Police Service in the Province for their sterling work in ensuring safety and security of different communities. “I wish to convey a word of gratitude to the SAPS in general for risking their lives as they serve and protect citizens in every corner of the Province.” he praised.

 

The entourage further visited the scene where the late Captain Marx was overpowered by strong current after succesfully rescuing a farmer in the area. The Premier was impressed to witness assistance of the community in looking for the missing member of the community who drowned into the same river.

 

Lieutenant General Mene acknowledged the support by Eastern Cape government, led by the Premier. “As the SAPS family, we humbly acknowledge the Eastern Cape government support amid this difficult and painful moment.” she said.
