Provincial Commissioner accompanied by the MEC and Mayor conduct monitoring visits at Beitbridge Port of Entry to assess state of readiness for the festive season

MUSINA – The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe had on Friday, 26 November 2021, joined the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mrs Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya and the Mayor of Musina Local Municipality, Councilor Nkhanedzeni Godfrey Mawela during a monitoring visit at Beitbridge Port of Entry.

 

The main objective of the visit was to assess the capacity of the border and to ensure that it is ready to function according to the expected standards during this festive season.

 

The entourage was accompanied by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for the Detectives Major General Samuel Manala, Provincial Heads, the Acting District Commander of Vhembe, the Commander of Beitbridge Port of Entry, Unit Commanders, members from the Department of Transport and Community Safety, Coucillors, Saps members, SANDF members, Department of Home Affairs and other stakeholders.

 

Before the visit, a joint operation was conducted at Baobab Plaza through a roadblock, patrols at the mall and stop and searches aiming to sustain the safety and combat crime in the area.

 

The MEC held a meeting with Border Management Committee at Musina Local Municipality Council Chamber to evaluate festive season readiness at the border post. Thereafter, the delegation proceeded to Beitbridge Port of Entry to analyse the state of readiness, they were led by the Port of Entry Commander Colonel Radzilani.

 

Because community safety is the primary responsibility of law enforcers in the province, the team concluded the day by engaging with the community members of Musina through walkabouts at the mall, as part of monitoring ‘Black Friday’ shopping while conducting one on one engagements with communities on police visibility and service delivery. Walkabouts are one of the crucial strategies that assist to improve service delivery as leaders effectively communicate with members of community.
