Progress update on Hout Bay and Llandudno water disruption

Water supply has been restored in the Hout Bay area, and work continues to fully restore supply to Llandudno. A faulty valve is affecting supply to about half of the area. Work is under way to resolve the matter as quickly as possible, however further outages will be necessary to complete repairs. Residents’ continued patience throughout this time is sincerely appreciated.

The City’s Water and Sanitation team is working around the clock to restore the supply to the whole of Llandudno. Currently only half the area has supply. The disruption is being caused by a faulty valve.

A standpipe has been installed in Mount Rhodes Drive and two water tankers are roaming through Llandudno to provide residents with water for domestic consumption. This is to provide relief in the interim and while preparations for the repairs are under way.

The water supply to Llandudno will need to be shut down once again so the team can safely replace the faulty valve. The standpipe and the two water tanker arrangements remain in the area until the water supply is restored. Residents are advised to collect water in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.

Residents are reminded that once the repairs are completed, the water supply to the Llandudno area will be opened up very slowly to prevent any pipe burst, and not all houses will receive water at the same time.

Llandudno residents are advised to ensure that their taps are closed when the supply is shut down for the repairs to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the supply is restored.

The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused and appreciates the patience of the consumers while it endeavours to restore the supply.
