Johannesburg: The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) is set to hold its 16th Quarterly Commission meeting, where it will review feedback from the recent COP29 conference. The meeting aims to address critical topics such as the leadership transition within the PCC and discussions on global and national climate priorities.
According to South African Government News Agency, the agenda will include an update on the Climate Change Response Fund (CCRF), which was initiated following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address. The PCC has conducted two stakeholder dialogues to gather input for shaping the CCRF. The meeting will review proposals for comments and potentially endorse the PCC CCRF recommendation.
Additionally, the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dr. Deon George, will provide an update on South Africa’s participation at COP29 and its implications for the country. The meeting will also feature a report from the G20 task force on Global Mobilisation against Climate Ch
ange, focusing on the 1.5°C agenda, as South Africa prepares to assume the G20 Presidency in December 2024.
The PCC will also acknowledge the contributions of outgoing Deputy Chair, Valli Moosa, and welcome the newly appointed Deputy Chair, Dr. Crispian Olver, whose term begins in January 2025. The meeting is scheduled for Friday, 6 December at the Women’s Jail at Constitutional Hill in Johannesburg.
