President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Saturday, 12 March 2022, lead government’s engagement with communities in the North West, in a post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) Presidential Imbizo.
The President will visit the Ngaka Modiri Molema District to oversee the implementation of the District Development Model which integrates planning and budgeting across all the three spheres of government.
The visit to the North West will also update citizens on progress in governance in the province since the national sphere has intervened under Section 100 of the Constitution.
President Ramaphosa will interact with communities on their experience of daily life in the province, service delivery challenges and initiatives and solutions by communities to improve socio-economic conditions.
The President will be joined by Premier Bushy Maape, a delegation of Ministers, members of the provincial executive council, and district and local mayors.
The Presidential Imbizo forms part of the President’s stated commitment in the State of the Nation Address that no-one will be left behind as government works with all sectors of society to move the country forward.
The imbizo platform is an important means of ensuring citizens are heard and involved in development.
Ahead of the Imbizo on Saturday, the President will engage with the North West House of Traditional Leaders and will tour the Mafikeng Digital Innovation Hub.
The Mafikeng Digital Innovation Hub was established in 2020 following the call by President Ramaphosa in the SONA 2019 to expand township digital hubs which would incubate new businesses.
The hub is incubating youth, women and people living with disability with preparatory Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) skills development, innovation, and technology and entrepreneurship development.
All COVID-19 regulations will be strictly adhered to at the Presidential Imbizo and accredited media will be physically present to cover the proceedings.
The Presidential Imbizo will be streamed live on all Presidency and government digital platforms.
