Premier Bushy Maape responds to media reports about the possible closure of Country Bird Chicken Company

North West Premier, Kaobitsa Bushy Maape, has noted with concern media reports indicating that Country Bird Chicken Company, based in Mahikeng, is considering closing shop ostensibly due to a lack of service delivery from the local municipality.

Country Bird has been in operation in Mahikeng for decades and its closure could mean the loss of over 2000 jobs.

Premier Maape said in view of these media reports the Provincial Government will soon engage with this company, and is also putting in place a programme of engagement with the various sectors of organised business in the province in order to establish closer working relationships between Government and business.

“Government has the responsibility to create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive, thus contributing to socio-economic development and to sustainable livelihoods within our communities. We recognise that businesses such as these have a significant contribution to make to the economy and we will take all necessary steps to ensure that they succeed. Engagements will soon commence, together with the relevant components of government, to deal with issues of service delivery as raised by Country Bird and to seek a lasting solution” remarked Premier Maape.
