North West Premier, Kaobitsa Bushy Maape has assembled a team of officials to assist the families of nineteen (19) people who died in a horrific head on collision accident over the weekend. The announcement follows a visit by Premier Maape to the bereaved families yesterday, 28 February 2022.
The deceased were travelling from Bloemhof after attending a wedding anniversary of a relative. They are from Ipelegeng Township in Schweizer Reneke in the Mamusa Local Municipality. Fourteen (14) of them are from one family.
Premier Maape, who was accompanied by MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management Sello Lehari as well as the Mayor of Mamusa Local Municipality, Councillor Seitabeleng Chelechele, said the team will explore all avenues available to assist the bereaved families.
“Government has dispatched a team of officials to this area to do a needs assessment. The completion of this exercise will then inform the nature of intervention needed in assisting the families of the deceased” said Premier Maape.
Premier Maape has also appealed to the community and various stakeholders to exercise patience as investigations are currently underway.
“The law enforcement agencies spend nine hours on the scene. This tells one about the intensity of this accident. We can’t rush to conclusions. It is only investigations which will reveal what transpired here. This will also help government to devise strategies on how to avert and deter what happened here” concluded Premier Maape.
