Western Cape to launch its U=U campaign: putting people living with HIV at the centre of prevention efforts
On Tuesday, 1 August 2023, the Western Cape Provincial Council on AIDS on TB (co-chaired by Premier Alan Winde and Civil Society Chairperson Professor Harry Hausler) will launch the province’s Undetectable Equals Untransmittable (U=U) campaign.
This multisectoral campaign, which includes the voices of people living with HIV and civil society sectors, will aim to improve the province’s antiretroviral (ART) coverage and to encourage people living with HIV to remain in ART care. It remains a concern that a relatively high number of people living with HIV in the province are currently not on ART.
The launch of the U=U campaign will coincide with the opening of Mitchells Plain Community Health Centre’s second Wellness Hub, which will be used by the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness to offer accessible comprehensive healthcare services to underserved residents with a focus on disease prevention and health promotion.
Media are invited to attend. There will be opportunities for photographs and interviews.
