Pretoria, South Africa – The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has rolled out its #TravelOffPeak campaign, offering commuters significant fare discounts to encourage travel during off-peak hours. This initiative, starting from November 13, 2023, spans across all operational routes of PRASA.

According to South African Government News Agency, PRASA Group Chief Executive Officer Hishaam Emeran detailed that the campaign aligns with the organization’s goal to promote the use of Metrorail services beyond the typical peak hours. He highlighted the benefits for commuters, including cost savings, a quieter travel experience, and a more efficient use of transportation infrastructure.

The discounts offered by PRASA are as follows:

Pensioners will receive a 50% discount during off-peak hours.

The general public and regular commuters can enjoy a 40% discount during off-peak.

Scholars in uniform are eligible for a 50% discount at any time of the day.

A 10% discount is available for bulk purchases.

Groups such as schools or event attendees traveling together will receive a 50% discount.

These off-peak discounts are applicable from 09h30 to 14h30 on weekdays and all day during weekends and public holidays.

PRASA advises commuters to check their eligibility for these discounted fares before traveling. The tickets purchased under this campaign are valid only on the day of purchase and during off-peak hours, with the exception of scholars in uniform, whose tickets are valid throughout the day.

With the #TravelOffPeak initiative, PRASA aims to offer a more comfortable and cost-effective travel option to its commuters, inviting them to take advantage of these discounts for their various travel needs.
