The City’s Water and Sanitation Department is currently attending to emergency repairs today Sunday 20 February 2022 which involves a severe leak on its 915mm diameter bulk water pipeline in Ottery. This requires it to be shut off to enable the maintenance team to do the repairs safely. An assessment was done and alternate supply has been routed into a substantial part of the water supply areas.
There will however be a possible disruption in the water supply to the Strandfontein, Pelican Heights, Pelican Park, Eagle Park, Lotus River, Schaapkraal, Knole Park, Ottery, Grassy Park, Parkwood, Turfhall Park and Far South areas while the repairs are being done.
Before repairs started, the Water and Sanitation Department rerouted water supply from other areas to this region as far as possible to help minimise the impact on affected areas and other parts of the network and communities.
Some of the affected areas will be without water and others will experience low water pressure.
Residents in the affected areas without water are kindly requested to keep their taps closed during the repairs to avoid water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.
Residents in the affected areas with access to water are kindly requested to reduce their water consumption to reduce the strain on the water supply network.
Residents are encouraged to contact their ward councillors and visit the City Alerts Twitter page for updates on locations of water tankers that will be roaming the areas experiencing no water.
The City regrets the inconvenience caused, and appreciates residents’ cooperation as it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to the benefit of its consumers.
