Polokwane gets a new Station Commander

POLOKWANE – In an effort to rejuvenate the crime fighting machinery at the local level, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has on Monday, 03 October 2022, appointed the new Station Commander of Polokwane, Brigadier Matome Makhura.

Brigadier Makhura brings with him, a wealth of experience, discipline and passion to serve and protect the residents of the capital City of the Province.

Joining the Police in 1990, Brigadier Makhura went through the ranks until his appointment to this demanding position. Since joining the Police, he worked in different environments such as the K9 unit in Polokwane, Altona Police College as a trainer, and Crime Prevention in Polokwane where his skills in identifying conflicts and applying operational solutions emerged and thereafter led the SAPS Polokwane Taxi Violence Unit.

In 2002, Brigadier Makhura was promoted to the rank of Captain and appointed Sector Manager for Polokwane Central Business District and later promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel attached to SAPS Polokwane Crime Prevention Unit.

In 2011, he was then deployed as Police Advisor for the United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), in Sudan; and upon conclusion of the mission, made his way back home where he was appointed as the Station Commander of SAPS Botlokwa in 2013 at the level of Lieutenant Colonel.

In 2018, Brigadier Makhura was transfered to the then, Mankweng Cluster and then became the Capricorn District Vispol Commander, holding the rank of a Colonel.

Before his appointment as the Station Commander of Polokwane Police Station, he was serving as the Visible Commander at Seshego Police Station.

As a seasoned Police Officer with an impeccable record and an academic background which includes a National Diploma and B-Tech Degree in Policing, BA Honours Degree in Community Oriented Police Management and current studies for LLB degree, Brigadier Makhura’s career in the SAPS is exemplary and commendable.

Soon after conferring the rank, the Provincial Commissioner urged the new Station Commander to use his extensive, experience, knowledge and skills to clean up the streets of the Capital of Limpopo Province, Polokwane; of any form of criminality and lead by example.
