FREE STATE – Operations are being intensified to secure the Macufe festivities in Bloemfontein and around the province.
The multi-disciplinary approach ‘Operation Phethisa Molao’ will ensure that attendees at all Macufe events are and feel safe. While continuing to ensure that communities in the greater Free State also are and feel safe.
As police we are appealing for calm, tolerance and cooperation from all motorists who will be using our main roads especially on the R30, N1, N8, N3 and rural roads.
An appeal is also being made to the greater public to not let their guard down, please be wary of crimes such as:
Car hijackings: ensure that you are always vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times. Do not use your cellphone while driving.
Theft out of motor vehicle and theft of motor vehicle: ensure that your vehicle is properly closed and locked before you move away from it, remote jamming exists. Put away all valuables so that they do not attract unwanted eyes.
Robberies and kidnapping: Move in groups, do not walk alone at unlit areas late at night. Do not accept lifts from people you do not know. Arrange for transport to take you home after every event. Do not walk around with your cellphone in hand or earphones hanging from your ears, store the phone secured on you or in a bag.
Rape: no one has the right to force you into a sexual activity or touch you in a sexual way without your consent. You have the right to say No!
Be safe when using ATMs: Never accept help from strangers while using the ATM. Make sure you leave with your card after every transaction. Make sure you hide the keypad when you have to punch in your PIN at the ATM.
Drinking and driving: Anyone found to be driving under the influence of alcohol will face the full might of the law.
During the operation the SAPS and various other external stakeholders will be conducting roadblocks along major routes as well as stop and searches throughout the province to ensure heightened police visibility and safer communities.
