Police arrested two suspects separately for possession of dagga and illicit cigarettes at the Mecklenburg and Modimolle policing areas.
Members of Operation Vala Umgodi in Sekhukhune District nabbed a 46-year-old man, who was found in possession of dagga at Mecklenburg on the R37 near garage during a stop and search operation, on Sunday, 29 September 2024.
Reportedly, the team was on operation when the suspect driving in a blue Ford Ranger double cab was stopped and searched. He was found transporting dagga and illicit cigarettes.
The suspect was immediately arrested. During the arrest police seized items such as nine bags of dagga weighing 18kg, blue Ford Ranger, 16 large sachets of dagga, 21 medium sachets of dagga, 19 small sachets of dagga, cartoons of Remington Gold and cellphones amongst others items.
Meanwhile, in Modimolle, members of Public Order Policing arrested one foreign national for possession of Illicit cigarettes on Sunday, 29 September 2024, at Modimolle town. The members received a tip
-off, which they accurately followed. The suspect was found in possession of boxes and plastic bags containing Illicit cigarettes. He was then arrested.
Both suspects will appear before the local Magistrate’s courts.
Police investigations are still ongoing.
