Police seize crayfish tails worth R1.7 million in Belhar

WESTERN CAPE - The swift response of the Maitland Flying Squad ensured the arrest of a 21-year-old male suspect yesterday for possession of crayfish without a permit. Members followed up on information about crayfish tails at an address in Belhar. They swooped in and searched the premises. Three thousand eight hundred and sixty four crayfish tails worth R1.7 million were found in a fridge. A 21-year-old male was arrested and detained at Belhar SAPS.

The suspect will make his court appearance in the Bellville Magistrate’s court on Monday, 06 February 2023.

In an unrelated incident, members of Operation Restore in Nyanga were conducting a stop and search operation in Browns Farm at around 20:10 yesterday. In an unexpected turn of events, unknown suspects approached and opened fire. The members fired back while chasing the suspects who ran towards the informal settlement. One of the suspects dropped a firearm and the members seized it. A case of attempted murder is under investigation.
