Police require assistance to locate stock thieves

FREE STATE – Police in Ventersburg request the community to assist in tracing the suspects of stock theft. It is alleged that the suspects gained entry by cutting the wire of the enclosed land where the stock is kept. This is in contravention of Section 4 of stock theft law.

Police received intelligence driven information about the suspects who are planning to steal cackle at Christians Ruhe farm just few kilometres from Ventersburg on the N1. Way lay was done and early this morning, 1 February 2022 at about 2:00 the suspects arrived driving a Nissan NP200 bakkie. They took one cattle to the value of R30 000-00 and started slaughtering it just one kilometre from the kraal with the assistance of the light from the bakkie. When they saw the police vehicle they ran away into the bushy area and left the vehicle there. Because the farm itself is very bushy and it was dark it was difficult for police to trace them.

Police managed to confiscate the bakkie, hammer, two pliers, a bloody knife, bloody clothes, cooler box and a grade of beer. The confiscated items will assist with investigations, and be used as evidence in court.

A case of stock theft is being investigated by the Odendaalsrus stock theft unit.

Anyone with any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects is requested to call the investigating officer Warrant Officer Beertjie De Bee on 083 321 8241 or Capt Francois Odendaal on 082 465 3159.
