Police recover unlicensed firearm and continue with manhung for suspect

As part of efforts to eradicate illegal firearms, a joint operation by members of SAPS Capricorn District, Lebowakgomo, and Magatle led to the recovery of an unlicensed 9mm pistol and a magazine at Mahlareng village in Magatle policing area outside Lebowakgomo.

The operation was conducted after receiving information about a suspect from Makgopong village in possession of a firearm who has threatened community members at a tavern in Mehlareng village. Although the suspect evaded arrest, officers recovered the firearm with ammunition that were dropped by the suspect.

Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the operation, saying: “We are committed to addressing the scourge of illegal firearms in our province and ensuring the safety of our communities.”
