On Monday, 20 September 2021, the East London Serious Organised Crime Investigation team of the Hawks successfully brought before Zwelitsha Magistrate’s Court for the first time Floki Thando Mangolwane (24) for allegations of police killing.
Mangolwane is linked to a murder of Sergeant Pumlani Dastile that happened in Zwelitsha King William’s Town on 23 August 2021. He was traced by the team at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town where he was being treated for gunshot injuries after being shot on Friday 10 September 2021 in an alleged taxi violence related incident. On the very same day in another incident another suspect is reported to have been shot dead in a gang related matter also in Cape Town.
Mangolwane is remanded in custody to the 30 September where he will be appearing with his co-accused Kwanga Nojaholo (36) who had since his arrest on 27 August 2021 been incarcerated. The duo will be making a formal bail application on the set date. Nojaholo is alleged to have hosted, transported the co-accused and also located and pointed the deceased to the main suspects one of whom was also found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in Cape Town on 15 September 2021.
The Provincial Head Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya gave the team a thumbs up for ensuring that the remaining suspects are brought forward to face the arm of the law.
