PRETORIA – As the country marks the start of Police Safety Month, the Minister of Police General Bheki Cele and Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale will be attending the official funeral services of slain SAPS members, Sergeants Nkosinathi Ngcobo, Sharon Mogale and Pumlani Dastile.
Sergeant Dastile attached to the Eastern Cape Provincial Organised Crime unit was on the 23rd of August 2021, following up on information on a business robbery, when he was fatally shot by two unknown suspects.
On 26th of August 2021, Sergeant Mogale attached to the Tembisa Police Station, together with her partner Sergeant Mapule Petje were attacked by four armed suspects while inside a retail shop in Tembisa; Ekurhuleni. The suspects shot officer Mogale in the head before making off with both of the officers’ service pistols. Petje was not injured during the attack.
The following day, on the 27th of August 2021, Sergeant Ngcobo from the Richards Bay police station was shot and killed while driving in his state vehicle around the Nyanda area in KwaZulu-Natal. The officers’ service pistol, wallet and cellphone were stolen.
