WESTERN CAPE – Our endeavours to fight serious and violent crimes in the Western Cape yielded success when police members arrested three males in isolated incidents in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Mitchells Plain police members were busy with patrols on Monday 21 November 2022 doing stop and searched operations. Near to the corners of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich Streets they noticed an unknown man who suddenly changed direction when he saw the patrol vehicle. The police members apprehended the man, searched him and confiscated a revolver with ammunition. The 19-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Police members attached to Muizenberg Crime Prevention Unit were busy with patrols on Monday 21 November 2022. When they entered Harmony Road they saw a man running with a bag clutched to his hand. The police members immediately gave chase and apprehended the man. They searched the unknown man and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. The 33-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Police members of the Anti-Gang Unit, deployed in Hanover Park to combat the ongoing gang violence in the area, responded to information and searched a premises is Surburg Walk in Hanover Park on Sunday 20 November 2022. They arrested and detained a 34-year-old man when he was found in possession of different calibre ammunition on a charge of possession of unlicensed ammunition. Meanwhile they returned to same area on Monday 21 November 2022 and conducted patrols near to Ryburg Road. An unknown man fled the scene with police members in pursuit. In full view of the police members the suspect dropped an object into a stationary vehicle. The 37-year-old man was apprehended, arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Mitchells Plain, Muizenberg and Athlone Magistrate’s court on the mentioned charges.
