Police members of Operation Shanela detain three suspects on charges of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition

The deployment of police members attached to Operation Shanela in the Western Cape to address the crime as per the crime pattern analysis proved to be successful when three suspects were arrested for the possession of prohibited firearms in isolated incidents on Sunday, 01 September 2024.

The members deployed in the greater Khayelitsha conducted an intelligence driven operation in Makhaza when they responded to information. Upon approaching an address in Mqubela Street, they noticed a suspicious Toyota Quantum minibus, with four occupants. The members approached the vehicle and searched the occupants which resulted in the confiscation of a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They detained a 28-year-old man for the unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated intervention police members entered a residence in Dicks Street in Wallacedene and searched the entire area as well the occupants and in the process recovered a zip gun. They arrested a 23-year-old female and a 27-year-old male f
or the unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Once charge the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Khayelitsha and Blue Downs Magistrates’ courts on the mentioned charges.
