Police members in the Western Cape make inroads with the confiscation of unlicensed firearms and ammunition

WESTERN CAPE - Police members in Western Cape proved their commitment to rid the area of unlicensed firearms when they arrested suspects in two isolated incidents.

On Friday 265 August 2022, members attached to the Anti-Gang unit pursued information following an increase in gang related incidents in the Mitchells Plain policing precinct. They proceeded to an address in Waterval Street, Tafelsig and searched the entire premises and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. An 18-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

On Saturday 27 August 2022 Manenberg police responded to information pertaining a suspicious person near to Jensen Street. The police members spotted a person that fitted the description and apprehended the man, searched him and found a 9mm pistol with ammunition in his possession. The 39-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Mitchells Plain and Athlone Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges.
