Police members arrested suspects in possession of drugs, firearms and presumed stolen property

WESTERN CAPE – Driven by adrenaline, police members responded to information received from the public and in the process arrested four suspects on Wednesday, 01 September 2021.

 

Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit members followed up on information received and proceeded to an address in NY 155 in Gugulethu. Upon arrival at the identified address, mandrax tablets with a street value of R750 000-00, Two 9mm pistols with ammunition and bank cards were confiscated. Two suspects aged 28 and 32 were arrested and detained.

 

In an unrelated matter police members of Philippi East were busy with routine patrols when they noticed three suspicious males walking on the road. As the patrol vehicle approached the suspects fled, firing several gunshots at the police members. The members returned fire, wounding one of the suspects who was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment where he is under police guard. A 35 year old man was arrested and detained whilst the third suspect is still to be arrested three 9mm pistols with ammunition were confiscated on the scene.

 

Once charged the suspects are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate on separate charges of possession of drugs, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition as well as a case of possession of presumed stolen property
