Police launch manhunt for suspects who fatally shot a policeman

Police have launched a manhunt for at least two suspects, who fatally shot a police Warrant Officer in Ngqeleni yesterday.

On Monday, 30 September 2024 at about 14:45, it is alleged that two men, at least one of them armed with a firearm accosted a police Warrant Officer (59) at Chaplain Street in Ngqeleni. It is further said that a police officer was fatally shot, and his service pistol was also stolen.

Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the nearest police station. The information may also be shared via Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene extended words of condolences to the family, “This incident is seen as an attack on the authority of the state. We would like to assure the public that we will do our best to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.
