Police investigate a fatal shooting incident, security guard arrested and charged with murder

NELSPRUIT – Police at Secunda are investigating a fatal shooting incident whereby a security guard (20) is alleged to have shot a person who later died in hospital. The incident reportedly occurred on 23 November 2022 at about 08:00. It is said that members of the police at Secunda received information regarding a shooting incident at Nelson Mandela Drive in Secunda.

On arrival the members found an ambulance with a male person inside. It is said that the man had sustained gunshot wounds subsequent to a shooting incident which occurred earlier prior to the arrival of the police. It is said that a security officer allegedly opened fire directed at the victim who is yet to be identified. Circumstances surrounding this shooting incident is still under investigation however the security guard was arrested by the police and charged for murder. The alleged firearm used in the shooting has also been confiscated for further investigation. Preliminary investigation revealed that the said firearm belongs to a security company which employed the arrested guard.

The victim was taken by an ambulance to hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

The suspect is due to appear at the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 25 November 2022 facing a murder charge.
