WILLOWVALE - Ongoing efforts by our dedicated and committed members to rid communities of illegal firearms yielded positive results when police members arrested one suspect on Tuesday, 17 January 2023 in possession of an illegal firearms and ammunition.
It is alleged that at about 16:00 on the mentioned date, members swiftly responded to information of people fighting in town near the squatter camp. On arrival they spotted three men, two of them managed to run away while a 25 year old was arrested. Police recovered three firearms and ammunition
The firearms will be sent to ballistics for ownership and analysis. The suspect is expected to appear in the Willowvale magistrate court soon on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
District Commissioner, Maj Gen Ngangema Xakavu applauded members for their quick response. “Recovered illegal firearms may be considered a success however it is still a serious concern that so many illegal firearms are still roaming the streets and used to commit crimes. The impressive recovery of these firearms is commendable,” added Maj Gen Xakavu .
