WESTERN CAPE – The continued efforts by police members to rid their communities of unlicensed firearms and ammunition resulted in the confiscation of three firearms in isolated incidents.
Police members of Operation Restore were busy with patrols in Heinz Park on Thursday 22 September 2022 when they received information of firearms stored at an address. The members then approached the residence in Magwaza Village and searched the house and the person who opened the door. They confiscated a 9mm pistol and a zip gun. A 3- year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
Members of the Anti-Economical Task Team received information and immediately operationalised the detail and proceeded to an address in Alphen Street in Stellendale Village in Kuilsriver on Friday 23 September 2022. Upon entering the premises they started an intense search and found a 9mm pistol with ammunition hidden in a cupboard. A 34-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Meanwhile police members followed up on information about a firearm at an informal settlement on Saturday 24 September 2022. The convoy proceeded to an address in Siqalo informal settlement and searched the identified address and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. A 28-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respected court appearances in the Athlone and Blue Downs Magistrate’s court on the mentioned charges.
