Police in Gqeberha arrest robbery suspects
GQEBERHA – Nelson Mandela Bay District Crime Combatting Unit were swift to arrest three alleged robbery suspects who robbed a man who was delivering chips to a quick shop at a garage in Rink Street yesterday morning, 15 February 2022.
It is alleged that at about 11:00, the complainant (28) was delivering and also stacking the shelves inside the shop when 5 males approached and verbally threatened him. He was ordered to drive his vehicle around the corner where they loaded boxes of chips to the value of R1550 into a VW Polo.
Immediately the vehicle was circulated by a private security company and within 10 minutes, the District CCU members and the security company spotted the vehicle, stationary in Albany Road in North End. Three males were seated inside the vehicle. The police members cautiously approached the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and several cellphones, a tablet, a laptop and bankcards were found inside.
The suspects, aged 25-27 years old, were arrested on a charge of robbery and possession of suspected stolen property. Police will be probing a possible link to house robberies committed in the Kwazakele and Motherwell areas.
The vehicle was impounded for further investigation. The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Gqeberha magistrate court soon.
