On Wednesday, 25 August 2021 Durban Magistrate Court sentenced Rapula Marole (41) for impersonating a police officer and corruption which happened at Durban in 2016.
Marole offered a gratification of R100 000-00 to a police detective who was investigating a case against his associates. The matter was reported to Hawks members from Durban Serious Corruption Investigation unit.
An undercover operation was conducted and he was arrested after handing over cash to a police detective. During his arrest he claimed to be an undercover police official working for the state. Hawks investigation revealed that he was not a police official.
Marole was then charged for impersonating a police officer and corruption. He appeared in court several times until he was found guilty in February this year. He was sentenced to six months imprisonment for impersonating a police officer and six years imprisonment for corruption. Two years of his sentence was suspended for five years and R100 000-00 that was used as a gratification was forfeited to the state.
