Police empower women during Women’s Month through an educational initiative

DURBAN - Today Brighton Beach Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit spear headed by Acting Unit Commander, Captain Guruduth Doodhnath and Brighton Beach SAPS Corporate Communications with Community Safety and Liaison in joint collaboration hosted a ‘vulnerable group within society’ awareness initiative.

The vulnerable groups within society initiative was hosted at the Hill Side Mall Bluff, situated within the Brighton Beach Policing precinct.

The project entailed the distribution of an educational care pack created by Captain Louise Le Roux for female visitors at the mall. The care pack contained information guides on domestic violence, rape myths and safety for women and children in public spaces.

The pack also contained a Brighton Beach Women’s Network telephone bookmark. The bookmark contains contact details of supporting organizations that offers support and services to survivors of gender-based violence. Broschures and Brighton Beach Women’s Network bookmarks, containing importance contact details, were distributed.

This partnership policing initiative held educational value while empowering women within society.

Project Manager, Captain Louise Le Roux thanked all role players for their participation, while also acknowledging the Hill Side Mall Management and Tenants for affording the SAPS a platform to host this initiative.
