Police disarm and arrest suspect in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

CAPE TOWN – Police are determined to disarm and arrest suspects in possession of unlicensed firearms.

Elsies River police members responded to a complaint of a shooting incident in Epping Forest on Sunday, 27 March 2022, at around 10:30. Upon arrival in Chickwell Street, they spotted the suspect who matched the description and gave chase. The suspect fled into a premises with police in pursuit. The 19-year-old suspect was apprehended and the police members confiscated a 9mm pistol hidden behind a couch. The suspect was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Members of Maitland Flying Squad conducted a stop and search operation in Kraaifontein on Sunday, 27 March 2022. The members followed up on information and arrested a 30-year-old man in possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in Goodwood and Blue Downs on the mentioned charges.
