It is with deep sorrow that we confirm the tragic death of one of our police officials, who was killed in the line of duty during a violent confrontation on Sunday, 22 September 2024.
The incident occurred at approximately 17:00 in the Phahameng township area, when they were responding to a complaint. During the incident, Constable Mojalefa Borolo (30) sustained fatal injuries and despite efforts to rescue his life by emergency medical services, he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Responding to this incident, backup, including members from the Public Order Police Unit of Welkom arrived, and the three suspects locked themselves in the house and blocked all doors from inside. Police tactically entered the house and subsequently three men were fatally wounded.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen member during this difficult time. Constable Borolo’s sacrifice will not be forgotten,” said the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the police in the
Free State, Major General Solly Lesia.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the suspects is currently underway.
