EDEN CLUSTER - Endeavours to safeguard communities and to rid them from drugs resulted in the confiscation of an assortment of drugs during crime combating operations in the Garden Route District over the weekend.
On Friday, 19 August 2022, George police conducted a roadblock on the N2 highway at the entrance of George. During a search of a vehicle the police found 160 mandrax tablets in the possession of an occupant on board. The members arrested the 41-year-old man on a charge of possession of drugs.
Later the same day, Rural Flying Squad members followed up on information of illicit activities when they conducted a search at a spaza shop at Khayalethu, Knysna. They proceeded with a search of the premises and a vehicle parked at the entrance when they found 16 bundles of Khat concealed under the seat of the vehicle. Police arrested a 40-year-old man on a charge of possession of drugs.
Furthermore, during the early hours of this morning members attached to the Still Bay police conducted patrols at Melkhoutfontein (Still Bay) when they received information of illicit activities in the vicinity. The members swiftly responded and pounced on a residence. A search of the premises ensued and the police found 21 mandrax tables, two quarters of mandrax tablets, 18 sachets consisting tik and three bankies of dagga. The police confiscated the drugs and arrested the 29-year-old occupant of the shack on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Drugs remain a contributor to incidents of gender-based violence and femicide. The vigilance of police to remove these drugs from the streets would go a long way in safeguarding those affected by this scourge.
